Special Care Nursery
On average, 90% of all newborns are born healthy. In the event a newborn is born prematurely or has a critical health condition at birth, the Labor and Delivery unit at Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington is equipped with a Special Care Nursery for those babies that need critical care. Newborns that are under 32 weeks of gestation may be transferred to a NICU if more intensive care is required. We have an experienced and compassionate health care team to provide the best birth experience possible.
Specially trained doctors, registered nurses, and a respiratory therapist are available to provide the comprehensive care that a high risk newborn needs in a specialized environment. Heading up the team of neonatologist is Dr. Leslie Leigh who completed his residency and fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. His team of board-certified neonatologists with the American Board of Pediatric, Neonatology and Perinatology include Drs. Ima Thompson, Palanisamy Rajasekaran, and Daniel Suskin.
